November 26, 2006

United Soccer Leagues (USL) officially announces a new Premier Development League (PDL) soccer franchise, the Ventura County Fusion. The team is the first and only soccer franchise to ever be established in the region.

April 28, 2007

The team plays its first-ever PDL match, a 2-1 home victory over the visiting Lancaster Rattlers.

July 24, 2007

The Fusion participates its first-ever international exhibition match against professional opposition by taking on Barclays® (English) Premier League team Everton F.C. at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

January 18, 2008

Fusion player Chance Myers becomes the first pick of the 2008 Major League Soccer Super Draft, being selected by the Kansas City Wizards.

February, 2008

The Fusion forms the Ventura County Fusion Youth Soccer Academy focused on providing top-level training opportunities to youth soccer players through year-round programs including camps, clinics, soccer schools and competitive teams.

February 25, 2008

In an exhibition match against the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer, the Fusion beats the Crew by a score of 1-0.  This is only the second time ever that an MLS team is beaten by a PDL side.  Later in the year, the Columbus Crew go on to win the 2008 MLS Cup.

February 8, 2009

In an exhibition match against Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer, the Fusion battle to another favorable result earning a 1-1 draw.  After this match, Real Salt Lake goes on to win the 2009 MLS Cup.

February 16, 2009

The Fusion caps off another successful preseason of games against professional opposition, earning its first victory against a foreign professional team, when Fusion defeats Gais of the Swedish First Division by a score of 1-0.

April 22, 2009

Fusion captain Anton Peterlin is offered a contract by Everton FC of the English Premier League, from a trial that was organized by the Fusion front office.  Peterlin is the first ever PDL player to be offered a contract from an EPL team.

April 29, 2009

The Fusion signs a long-term agreement with the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach Hotel in Ventura, Calif., as its title sponsor and premier corporate marketing partner. As part of the agreement, the hotel’s brand identity appears on the front of the team’s home and away jerseys.

July 21, 2009

The Fusion plays Barclays® (English) Premier League Burnley Football Club in an exhibition match at Oxnard College Stadium in Oxnard, Calif., but go down, 5-0.

August 8, 2009

In a nationally-televised final match broadcast live on FOX Soccer Channel, and held at Buena High School’s Bulldog Stadium, the Fusion scores a decisive 2-1 victory over the Chicago Fire to win the 2009 PDL Championship, and the first league title in the team’s history.

May 17, 2010

Ventura Mayor Bill Fulton and the Ventura City Council honor Ventura County Fusion with an official certificate of recognition for winning the 2009 PDL Championship. The announcement marks the first time the organization has been feted by the city of Ventura, the location of both the team’s headquarters and the stadium in which it plays its home games.

May 19, 2010

The Fusion announces the hiring of Robert “Bob” McNab, a global soccer veteran with over four decades of successful playing and coaching experience at the highest levels of the game, as the team’s new assistant coach and director of player development. McNab is a former Arsenal player, England National Team member, and NASL, MISL and CISL head coach.

June 7, 2010

The Fusion announces its qualification and first-round opponent, the Arizona Sahuaros, for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, a prestigious national soccer tournament open to all United States Soccer Federation (USSF)-affiliated teams, including prominent professional clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS). The June 15 game marks the Fusion’s debut in the tournament.

July 17, 2010

The Fusion takes on former Barclays® (English) Premier League team Portsmouth Football Club, affectionately known to its fans as “Pompey,” in a friendly at Oxnard College Stadium in Oxnard, Calif. The Fusion is edged by the visiting Blues, 2-1.

February 4, 2011

The Fusion plays the Portland Timbers to a 1-1 draw in their first ever-public match as a Major League Soccer team.  This was the beginning of a Fusion pre-season that included matches against 4 other MLS teams including Colorado Rapids, D.C. United, Vancouver Whitecaps and SJ Earthquakes.

May 28, 2011

For the second straight year, the Fusion qualifies for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup by destroying the Southern California Seahorses, 4-0, in their PDL divisional match at La Mirada High School in La Mirada, Calif.

June 14, 2011

For the first time in franchise history, the Fusion advances to the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 3-1 victory over visiting Doxa Italia, 3-1, at the Ventura College Sportsplex in Ventura, Calif.

July 17, 2011

The Fusion plays an international exhibition match against five-time FA Cup winner and Barclays® Premier League side West Bromwich Albion Football Club at Oxnard College Stadium in Oxnard, Calif. The Fusion briefly holds a 2-1 lead in the second half, but eventually falls to the Baggies, 4-2

July 20, 2011

In another first for the organization, the Fusion tangles with the New Zealand under-20 (U-20) men’s national team at Oxnard College Stadium in Oxnard, Calif. In a hard-fought contest with the junior All-Whites before they traveled to Colombia in the FIFA U-20 World Cup™, the Fusion scores two first-half goals to edge the Kiwis in a 2-1 win.

July 22, 2011

The Fusion challenges 14-time Argentine First Division champions Club Atlético Independiente at Oxnard College Stadium in Oxnard, Calif. The Red Devils triumph over the Fusion with a 3-0 victory. The game, the first the Fusion has ever played against a South American club, also represented the first time in Ventura County sports history that an Argentine team had visited the area. With 16 international championships, including seven Copa Libertadores titles, Independiente is one of the top three teams in Argentina sports history, and one of the most successful football clubs in the world.

July 23, 2011

Playing its fourth international exhibition match in six days, the Fusion faces five-time FA Cup winner and Barclays® (English) Premier League side Manchester City Football Club at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Calif. In a game closed to the public, the Fusion falls to the visiting Blues by a score of 2-0. Manchester City would go on to win the Barclays Premier League title at the conclusion of that season, defeating QPR in thrilling fashion on the final day season to pip rivals Manchester United to the title.

In its final game of the 2011 PDL season later that night, Fusion plays the visiting Los Angeles Legends to a 1-1 draw to secure its first undefeated season (10-0-5) in club history. The match is the organizations sixth in a nine-day span.

Fusion players Dillon Barna and Daniel Barrera are named to the 2011 USL PDL All-Conference and All-League Team. 

September 16, 2011

Fusion player Daniel Barrera is offered a contract from FK Spartak of the Serbian Super League from a trial that was organized by the Fusion front office.

Fusion has six players drafted to Major League Soccer teams.

Fusion beats Chivas USA of Major League Soccer 1-0 in a friendly match.

February 2012

Fusion hosts 6 MLS teams for preseason training and games including Chivas USA (1-0 win), Chicago Fire (0-0 Draw), Colorado Rapids (0-0 Draw), San Jose Earthquakes (0-0 Draw), Montreal (3-1 Loss) and Houston Dynamo.

For the first time in franchise history, the Fusion advances to the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 3-1 away victory over LA Blues of the USL Pro, at Fullerton College, Fullerton, Calif.

Fusion hosts Chivas USA of Major League Soccer in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, with a sellout crowd of 3,000 at Ventura College Sportsplex in Ventura, Calif.  Chivas USA wins 1-0, despite Fusion dominating large stretches of the second half.

Fusion wins the 2012 USL PDL Southwest Division Championship. Fusion wins the bid to hold the USL PDL Western Conference Final game, which was held at the Ventura College Sportsplex in Ventura, Calif.

Fusion hosts Swansea City of the Barclays® (English) Premier League, for a six day training camp in Oxnard, Calif. as part of Swansea City’s US tour.

Fusion loses Swansea City, 1 – 0, at Oxnard College, Oxnard Calif. This is the sixth Barclays® (English) Premier League side the Fusion has played in Franchise history.

January 17, 2013

Local Ventura HS and Fusion player, Kory Kindle is drafted in the second round by the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.

January 22, 2013

Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes, drafts former Fusion and UCSB standout, Peter McGlynn, in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft.

February 3, 2013

Fusion hosts 5 professional teams for preseason training and matches. Teams include Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Los Angeles Galaxy, and San Jose Earthquakes from Major League Soccer. Internationally, AIK becomes the third Swedish team the Fusion has hosted.

Two former Fusion players sign Professional contracts in Ventura during their preseason stint. Peter McGlynn, a UCSB standout, signs with the 2012 MLS Supporters Shield Winners, San Jose Earthquakes. And local Ventura High School product, Kory Kindle, signs with the Colorado Rapids.

For the second time in franchise history, Fusion defeats Swedish top-flight opposition, AIK of Stockholm. The Fusion triumphs 1-0 in this international friendly at Oxnard College, Oxnard in California.

Fusion and UCSB Men’s Soccer co-host MLS preseason exhibition matches, including games between UCSB and the Chicago Fire reserves, followed by the San Jose Earthquakes taking on the Chicago Fire at Harder Stadium, in Goleta, California.

Fusion and UCSB Men’s Soccer co-host second MLS preseason round robin exhibition matches between UCSB and Colorado Rapids reserves, followed by the 2012 MLS Champions Los Angeles Galaxy taking on Colorado Rapids in front of a near sellout crowd at Harder Stadium, in Goleta, California.

The Fusion starts its seventh year in the USL Premier Development League.

June 26, 2013

For the first time in franchise history, Fusion hosts a senior men’s national team, Canada. The Canadian Men’s National team trains for ten days in Oxnard, in their preparation for the 2013 CONCACF Gold Cup. The Fusion draws 1-1 in Canada’s only exhibition match prior to the CONCACAF Gold Cup.    

July 17, 2013

Fusion finishes as runners-up in the Southwest Division, hosting the Western Conference Finals for the second consecutive year, and earning a fifth- straight berth into US Open Cup.

October 7, 2013

Fusion hosted the New Zealand Men’s National team for five days in Ventura County for their preparation for their FIFA World Cup Intercontinental playoff match against Mexico. The Fusion drew 1-1 against New Zealand, one of only three exhibition matches prior to the World Cup qualifier against Mexico.

Fusion midfielder Rodrigo Lopez signs for USL Pro expansion side Sacramento Republic, becoming the club’s first player signed in franchise history.

Fusion defender Matt Wiet signs for Columbus Crew as a Homegrown player.

Fusion midfielder Emmanuel “Manny” Guzman signs with Mexican 2nd division side C.F. Mérida.  Guzman made his debut against Liga MX side C.F. Atlante in the Copa MX. 

January 16, 2014

Five former Fusion players are selected in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft.  Local Camarillo native J.J. Koval (9th overall) and Joe Sofia (28th overall) are drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes while D.C. United selects Victor Munoz (29th overall) in the 2nd round of the SuperDraft.  Defender Peter Schmetz is drafted by MLS champion Sporting Kansas City with the third pick of the third round (41st overall), and UCLA attacker Victor Chavez is drafted by the Portland Timbers with the 14th pick of the fourth round (71st overall). 

May 7, 2014

Fusion defeats C.D. Aguiluchos USA in the 1st Round of the US Open Cup, making Fusion the first USL PDL franchise to win a US Open Cup match in four consecutive years.  Kennedy Chongo scored the winner for Fusion to overturn an early 1-0 deficit and ultimately win 2-1.

June 14, 2014

Fusion tops Fresno Fuego, 2-1, in the first-ever Fusion match to be broadcast live on local television.  The broadcast airs on CAPS Channel 6 throughout Ventura.  A number of past Fusion matches have aired tape-delayed, but this marks the first live cable television broadcast.

July 11, 2014

For the third time in five seasons, Fusion wins the Southwest Division title after beating the Las Vegas Mobsters 2-0 on the final day of the regular season.  Fusion wins 7 of its final 8 games to claim the regular season crown.

July 15, 2014

Historic club Rangers F.C. (Glasgow, Scotland) visits Ventura County for a series of training sessions to kick off their North American tour, culminating in a friendly match on July 15.  Fusion upsets Glasgow Rangers 3-1, to earn the franchise’s first win over British opposition.  Jordan Vale gives Fusion a shock first half lead, while goals from Rony Arguetta and Matt LaGrassa scored in the second stanza to help secure the famous victory.

January 30, 2015

Former Fusion forward and current LA Galaxy star Gyasi Zardes becomes the first Fusion player to be capped by the United States Men's National Team.  Zardes would go on to become a USMNT regular, appearing in the Gold Cup, and Copa CONCACAF playoff versus Mexico.

February 8, 2015

Sacramento Republic midfielder Rodrigo Lopez becomes the first player inducted into the Ventura County Fusion Hall of Fame.  Lopez led Fusion to the 2009 USL PDL title, during one of three stints with the club.  A Santa Barbara native, Lopez led Sacramento to the 2014 USL Championship.

February 25, 2015

Fusion hosts the famed New York Cosmos in an exhibition match at Ventura College.  Real Madrid all-time leading scorer Raul makes an appearance for Cosmos, as the New York side defeats Fusion 1-0.

May 20, 2015

Fusion defeats Los Angeles Galaxy II (USL), 2-1, in the 2nd round of the US Open Cup.  Abu Danladi scores the winner, as Fusion reaches the third round of the competition for the second time in team history.

June 30, 2015

With a 1-0 defeat of SoCal Seahorses, Fusion qualifies for the USL PDL postseason for the 7th straight year.

July 8, 2015

In the inaugural Ventura County Cup, Fusion outlasts local rival FC Hasental, 2-1, in extra time.  A raucous crowd saw local star Michael Roman grab a late equalizer for Fusion, with Nick DePuy ultimately scoring the winner. 

August 20, 2015

Before a sold out crowd at the Ventura College Sportsplex, Fusion draws the Mexico U-17 National Team, 2-2.  The crowd was one of the largest in the history of the club.
