The Ventura County Fusion soccer club's PDL season includes seven home matches at Ventura College Sportsplex. The Fusion opens the season this Saturday with a home game against the San Diego Zest. The teams kick off at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased on game day at the Ventura College Sportsplex ticket box office.
In addition to the May 12 opener, notable matches on the Fusion schedule include a May 23 away game versus the So Cal Seahorses and a May 26 home game with division runner-up Fresno FC. The season concludes with a July 14 home match up with defending southwest division champion FC Golden State.
The Fusion competes in the Southwest division of the Western Conference of the Professional Development League (PDL). The league, which enters its 24th season, is designed to develop players between the ages of 17 and 23 and serves as a developmental league for clubs in MLS and abroad. It features 74 teams competing in four conferences and 11 divisions across North America. Many MLS and United States Men’s National Team players have spent time in the PDL including Gyasi Zardes of the Columbus Crew who starred for the Fusion during the 2012 PDL season.
The Fusion has won three division titles and claimed the PDL Championship in 2009. The team’s roster typically includes members of the United States Under 20 National Team, players from well-respected NCAA Division I university programs, and standouts from international squads throughout the world.
