After a tough first week of official competition and having lost both the PDL opener and in the 1st round of the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup for the first time ever. The Ventura County Fusion had a chance to redeem themselves in front of the home crowd against SoCal Seahorses.
And that was noticeable from kick off, Fusion attack was relentless and one after another chance either the visitors goalkeeper or the last man on defense kept Seahorses sheet clean.
That changed in the 37th minute when Chester Castellaw came up with the ball after a clean hard tackle right at midfield, advancing the ball against three defenders. Castellaw found Fusion veteran striker Artur Aghasyan right as he was charging in the box and after dribbling past the visiting team keeper and a defender, Aghasyan found the back of the net for the 1-0 in favor of “The Pride of the 805”.
Fusions Coach Rudy Ybarra made a couple of changes for the second half and the pressure kept on coming for the visit and it was at the 84th minute when Sam Strong found a loose ball after his teammate Josue Espana fought for a rebound, and Strong put it far enough from the hand of Seahorses keeper for the final 2-0.
Next for VC Fusion, the first of four consecutive games on the road. First stop will be in San Diego this Saturday, where they will face a brand new PDL team the SoCal Surf.
