Fusion Will Play Pre-Season Matches against MLS Champion Atlanta United, Colorado Rapids and Sacramento Republic

Regular Seasons begins at home against. the Santa Cruz Breakers on Friday, May 10th

VENTURA, CA – The Ventura County Fusion soccer club will play three games against Major League Soccer sides, including 2018 MLS Champion Atlanta United, as part of its 2019 preseason schedule.

The Fusion take on the Colorado Rapids, Saturday, February 9 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista California; Atlanta United Sunday, February 10 at Cal State Fullerton; and the Sacramento Republic on Wednesday, February 13 at the Santa Barbara Polo Fields.

Atlanta defeated the Portland Timbers 2-0 in the 2018 MLS Cup championship game. Former Ajax manager, Frank de Boer, was brought in this season to lead an extremely deep side that features established stars like  Josef Martinez, Michael Parkhurst and Darlington Nagbe and recently added former US National Team member Brek Shea to its roster.

“Being able to play these three great teams in our preseason will help us prepare for the start of our regular in May,” said Fusion Head Coach Rudy Ybarra. “Atlanta United is the defending MLS champion so it is really the bar that every team in this country measures themselves against.  Our players are chomping at the bit for a chance to measure themselves against such amazing competition.”

After completing its preseason, the Fusion open the 2019 regular season vs. the Santa Cruz Breakers on Friday, May 10th at 7 pm at the Ventura County College Sportsplex. Last season, the Fusion defeated the Breakers 1-0 on its way to a second place conference finish.
